Dear
Colleagues and Friends,
You are cordially invited to what we think will be
a very exciting symposium. This symposium on “The Intellectual: Old and New
Modes of Thought in Sudan and Beyond—Moving into the 21st Century” is
jointly conceived/coordinated by Professor Sondra Hale and Dr. Gada Kadoda, and is organized
in Khartoum by the Sudanese Knowledge Society
on April 29-30, 2017. The symposium will be in English.
Please check Introduction to Symposium and list of questions that we intend to explore about intellectuals
and/or intellectual ideas that have been important in the formation of Sudanese
thought and society. In addition, the blog includes links to some resources on who
is “the intellectual” and writings by some of our contemporary intellectuals in
Sudan and beyond. Please feel free to add online material you think is
relevant and useful to include in the collection of resources that all blog
visitors can find easily.
When you consult the blog, you will see that we have every
reason to believe that this will be an outstanding program. The program, registration form, directions and maps to venues, are posted on this blog. Please help us spread the word.
There will be an open-mic session at the end of the
symposium. It is meant to give all participants a platform to share their interests
and thoughts on the theme of the symposium. To help us make this project more
meaningful, let us start, in advance, a community dialogue on the subject of
“The Intellectual”. You are invited to add your thoughts through this online form. A
chronicle of what is shared will be made available on the blog, and
incorporated into the open-mic session at the symposium.
Warm wishes from the Organisers.
